How to Convert Shoe Sizes

The internet has made it much easier for consumers to purchase items from across the globe. Not only has the internet increased selection but it has also brought with it some practical convenience. Many consumers have found it much easier to purchase items online and have them shipped to a specified location when searching all over the mall for items. This is especially true for shoes. When selecting shoes online, it is a good idea to know how various sizes convert into one another. This makes it easier to select an appropriate fitting pair of shoes.
Often, women find themselves drawn to some styles of men’s shoes. If a woman wears a size 6, then she would think that she would probably need a 6 in men’s shoes. Actually this is not the case. Men’s sizes do vary from women’s shoes. To convert a woman’s size to a man’s size, simply add ½ to the size. The reverse of this is true when converting a man’s size to a woman; simply subtract ½ to the size.
Another common conversion that is good to know is how sizes from various countries correlate. This is even more important nowadays because many women from across the globe will purchase shoes from UK websites. If an American woman wanted to purchase a pair of shoes from the UK, for example from the British online department store Very.co.uk, then she would simply subtract 2.5 to find her UK size. If a woman in the UK wanted to purchase an American made shoe, she would do the reverse and add 2.5 to find her US size. However, for men’s shoes, this conversion is different. The difference between UK and US shoe sizes for men is ½. American men would subtract ½ to find their UK size.
Athletic shoes seem to have their own size guidelines. Typically most online sites, catering to international clientele, will have some sizing information for online shoppers. Typically, experts recommend that you select an athletic shoe that is a bit larger than your normal size. This might seem odd to many but this recommendation comes with good reason. Usually during exercise, the feet swell which lead them to increase in size. Having a shoe that is a bit larger will allow for this increase without causing pain.
